Cancun is much more than beautiful beaches. One of the tourist attractions that manages to catch the curious travelers is its fascinating Mayan Museum. The latter has become an important cultural space, as it is visited by thousands of tourists of different nationalities throughout the year.

The Museum, which is located on the Boulevard Kukulcan in the Hotel Zone of Cancun, offers its audience the largest collection of archaeological elements of the maya, which were found in sites such as Chichén Itzá, Palenque, Tulum, Coba, and Comalcalco, among others.

The Mayan Museum of Cancun opened in November of 2012 and has a modern design, large exhibition halls and approximately 350 historical pieces that belonged to this ancient civilization. It is perfect both for those who wish to learn more about the Maya culture and to visit with the family. The site includes different moments in the history of this people and every one of the items exhibited are properly documented in different languages. In addition, the museum counts with projections of images and multimedia samples.

The site consists of three rooms covering about 420 square meters, where are exposed objects that range from sculptures and ceramics to skeletal remains that have an antiquity of close to 10,000 years.

  • The first room

It shows the history of the maya who settled to the East of the Yucatan Peninsula and concentrated in a single space, the result of more than 30 years of discoveries and investigations in the state of Quintana Roo. The space gives visitors a historical journey from the beginnings of this civilization until the arrival of the Spanish in America. In it you can see pieces from different eras, which reflect the evolution of civilization through the years.

  • Second room

Focuses on describing the area in which the mayans settled. This area was 300,000 square kilometers and encompassed countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and southern Mexico. In addition, a reference is made here to the daily life of this wonderful people, their art, their economic activities, their worldview, their relationships with the environment, their rites, their wars, their cultural manifestations, and its architecture.

  • Third room

This space is currently used exclusively for temporary exhibitions that relate to the main theme of the site, the mayan culture.
