Sea lions are the most sociable mammals you can imagine. They come from the seal family and, generally, can be found in shallow coastal areas, near a dock, or on the beach. They have short, thin, and somewhat rough hair, unlike those that have thicker and smoother skin. Are you ready to live an adventure with them in Nuevo Vallarta? Yes, of course! Meet the most fun creatures of the sea!

First of all, you should know that male sea lions are impressively large; don’t think you’ll encounter a small, sweet, and playful mammal. This clarification is only made so you won’t be startled if, while snorkeling, you come across one of them. They can grow up to 2.5 meters in length and can weigh more than 380 kilograms. With females, it’s different; the difference between the sexes is vast. Female sea lions measure between 1.80 and 2 meters and can weigh up to 120 kilograms. You can certainly distinguish them easily!

There are two options for enjoying the company of sea lions in Nuevo Vallarta. The first is to visit the dock, which is part of Las Bahías, where you’ll find this species in its natural habitat. The second is to visit an ecotourism park and swim with them in immense pools, feed them, train them, pet them, and take the much-desired photo of the sea lion kiss.

Snorkeling with sea lions Las Bahías is scheduled every hour. You need to be at the dock 15 minutes before the agreed time so you can prepare well, and the guides will explain a little about this species, how they live, what their coexistence codes are, how they interact with each other and with humans, what they like (so you can train them), and much more.

Maybe while swimming with them, you’ll suddenly be surprised when they start spinning around and lift their fins out of the water. Do you know what that means? That they are very warm and need some air. Funny and sensational! Warm in the water?

On the other hand, if you start hearing loud noises, like roars, don’t worry! It’s not a sign of war or attack; it’s simply the male sea lions marking their territory, particularly for any of their fifteen females, which might be surrounded by another male. It’s this loud roar that gives this species the name sea lion.

Nuevo Vallarta is one of the most valuable jewels of the Mexican Pacific and the state of Nayarit. It is the sister city of Puerto Vallarta, known for its modernity, luxury, sophistication, and style. And as if that weren’t enough, it has a stunning natural habitat that will allow you to experience the most authentic sensations you could ever imagine. Come to Nuevo Vallarta to enjoy an unforgettable vacation!
