If you are one of those travelers who sees a trip as the best excuse to enjoy adventure and explore new places, you must visit Riviera Nayarit, where nature combines landscapes of sea and jungle with the Sierra Madre, safeguarding and shaping them.

The Sierra of the time zone is part of the Sierra Madre Occidental, which can be appreciated in this region of Mexico. It is not only a place where you can unleash adventure but also a cradle of ancestral traditions since indigenous tribes such as the Huichol, Coras, Tepehuanos, and Mexicaneros inhabited this area.

What can you find when visiting the Sierra of the time zone? To begin with, you must know it is an extensive territory, as it is part of the Sierra Madre Occidental, where mountains represent more than 80 percent of the surface. Therefore, it is a mountainous terrain. As a continuation of the mountain range of the United States and Canada, in Mexico, it spans parts of the states of Chihuahua and Sonora, reaching Nayarit.

The Expedition

If you decide to embark on an adventure you will never forget, organize your trip in advance and get ready to enjoy it with all your senses. What can you do? Would you like more details about this expedition?

The first thing you need to know is that you will be in a 4×4, which is the proper vehicle to navigate the terrains that characterize this region of Nayarit, where you will also cross rivers and the jungle. The beginning of the trip is already an adventure in itself, and additionally, traveling in a 4×4 will be very fun!

This is an ecological tour, as discovering the species that make up the natural landscape is one of the main activities. To do so, you will disembark from the 4×4 and start walking along trails in the forest. There, you will find abundant species, including more than 300 orchid species, 400 bird species, beautiful and colorful butterflies, and diverse mammals such as the armadillo, jaguar, raccoon, ocelot, margay, and reptiles like the iguana and lizard. Among the birds, you might observe the blue jay, the Amazon parrot, the great kiskadee, and the blue-footed booby, among others.

The expedition not only allows you to enjoy the senses of sight and smell but also taste, as you will have the opportunity to try some of the most delicious native flavors of the Riviera Nayarit region, such as corn tortillas, beans, and sauces. Everything is prepared with fresh and regional ingredients.

Lastly, you will undoubtedly be delighted with the handicrafts made by the Huichol people, who inhabit the Sierra Madre. Huichol art is expressed in figures that represent the gods of rain and the sun, among others. Don’t forget to take home a souvenir from here!

Get ready to embark on an expedition to the Sierra Madre, where you can enjoy an adventurous tour to contemplate the best landscapes of Nayarit. A must-see!
