Lá, where the crystal-clear waters and the emeralds of the Pacific Ocean meet the white sandy beaches and the lushness of the Sierra Madre Occidental; there, in the northern part of the Bay of Navidad, is located Melaque, a typical Mexican town for resting in Costalegre. It is part of the Municipality of Cihuatlán and consists of three small villages: San Patricio, Melaque, and Villa Obregón. Each of them has its own peculiar charm, which makes them unique.

Melaque is one of the oldest destinations in the state of Jalisco, a destination that has managed to grow and rise from its own ashes after the great hurricane that struck some time ago. However, the determination and effort of its people enabled everything that the intensity of the wind took to be rebuilt in no time.

Currently, Melaque has three well-defined areas that you must visit: San Patricio, Melaque, and Villa Obregón. The one that bears the same name is the place where the best beaches are found, with the typical summer lifestyle. Men and women seeking the best tan, children running, elderly people enjoying themselves under the shade of a palm tree, some brave soul practicing surfing, swimming, or skimboarding; and there’s always a craftsman strolling barefoot on the beach, offering true works of art.

The waters along the coasts of Melaque are characterized by being calm since their fury is contained by the Barra de Navidad and the bays in the region. Moreover, the area features rocky islands that become a paradise for adventure lovers. What do you think about taking a kayak ride here at dawn while the mist still lingers on the sea?

Villa Obregón is the place of glamour. It is positioned as the most residential area of the Barra de Navidad. The all-inclusive hotels and their exclusive architectural designs contrast modernity with the traditional charm of Melaque, not to mention the options for leisure: shopping centers, beauty salons, spas of all styles, and much more.

Finally, San Patricio is the village nestled between Villa Obregón and Melaque. It embodies serenity and calmness, culture, history, and tradition. You can wander through its main square and let yourself be captivated by the scent of fruit trees and explore beautiful craft markets where you’ll find everything you can imagine and more.

Surely, at some point during your stay, you’ll dine at some restaurants in town, and when you do, take note of this name: Tub. No! It’s not a recommended restaurant; it’s the drink you must order if you want to taste the true flavor of Melaque. It’s made with coconut palms, tropical fruits, and berries. Don’t miss out!

Enjoy an unforgettable stay on the coast of the state of Jalisco, dare to move away from classic tourist destinations like Puerto Vallarta and discover an incomparable universe of calm and serenity near Costalegre.
