Mexico has places that are truly wonderful and amazing. There isn’t a traveler who is not dazzled by the beauty of some landscapes that are undoubtedly etched in the memory of many as some of the most beautiful they have ever seen.

Among these is the Riviera Maya, a beautiful region located along the coast of the Caribbean Sea, encompassing the state of Quintana Roo and much of the famous Yucatan Peninsula, from Puerto Morelos to Punta Allen in the south, without forgetting some of the most popular destinations in the country and the world, such as Playa del Carmen or Cozumel Island.

What is the main attraction of the Riviera Maya? What are the natural charms that make it a unique region? Why is it worth visiting? What places should you see?

To answer these and other questions, we suggest taking one of the tours available when visiting this area, including, of course, one of the most magical and fun excursions in the area: discovering and exploring the cenotes of the Riviera Maya, natural and sacred formations that are spread across various parts of the region.

Did you know there are over 20 cenotes where you can practice diving, swimming, or snorkeling? If you didn’t know, get ready to explore some of these on your next trip to the Riviera Maya.

  • Poço Azul:

Located very close to Playa del Carmen, this site is surrounded by forest, creating a unique environment that invites you to dive into these waters and swim amidst nature. If you prefer to admire the scenery, you can walk around the area and take a stroll, as there are souvenir shops, restaurants, and other services available.

  • Aktun Chen:

More than just an isolated spot, this is a theme park worth visiting with plenty of time. Besides cenotes, you will find caves ideal for adventure tours. What can you do here? There are several activities for the whole family, from diving and snorkeling to zip-lining. You can also visit the area where the zoo is located, where you can see various species of animals such as monkeys, peacocks, macaws, birds, parrots, toucans, collared peccaries, snakes, and also species of tropical trees and plants. Aktun Chen is just 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen.

  • Cenote Dos Ojos:

This is one of the favorites for diving enthusiasts, as it features three caves connected by underground rivers. It is located just 14 kilometers from Tulum, and to get there, it’s recommended to take a tour that will guide you as you take your first steps in diving and discover underwater marvels.

  • Gran Cenote:

Due to the characteristics of the water and its depth, this site is ideal for visiting with children, as long as they know how to swim. Here you can rent snorkeling equipment, which is the main activity, as well as diving.

Which one will you choose for your next adventure? No matter which one you decide to visit first, make sure to explore some of the cenotes in the Riviera Maya this summer and marvel at these natural and sacred formations! You’re going to love it!
