Telchac Porto: a must-visit place on the coast

Telchac Puerto, un rincon imperdible de visitar en la costa del litoral yucateco

The state of Yucatán is, without a doubt, one of the states with the most solid local identity. Recognizing the cultural practices of this Mexican paradise is very simple, as they are very different from those in the rest of the country, and this is what makes it an excellent destination that deserves to be discovered. The Yucatecan Jaranas and trovas are the region’s anthems; the cuisine has such a distinctive touch (of Maya heritage, of course!), and the hospitality of its people makes every traveler feel at home. All these practices are reflected in each of the villages in the state, from urban and developed ones like Mérida to those found along white sandy shores like Telchac Puerto.

Telchac Puerto is a must-visit destination on the coastal shoreline, which, in addition to all these solid traditions that embrace this fishing village, boasts natural paradises on its lands that automatically become another reason to choose to spend your vacation in Yucatán.

Each day in Telchac Puerto will be unforgettable! The journey here begins very early, almost at dawn, when the fishermen arrive at the beaches and start navigating toward the horizon in search of fresh food. Seagulls and other types of birds circle around the boats, trying to snatch a good catch. Meanwhile, people begin to arrive at the white shores; little by little, children bring life to the beaches, artisans arrive with their finest jewelry pieces, someone bold takes to kayaking, women sunbathe, and you can always find someone feeding the colorful fish that adorn the crystal-clear waters of the sea with biscuits. The small pier has always been the chosen spot for couples to gaze at the sea; the old wooden dock, of which only remnants remain, is the favorite place for photography lovers to create their best work.

Meanwhile, in the central square, the immense trees await the arrival of those seeking a bit of tranquility as they admire the surrounding buildings. Bicycles begin to make their rounds—local townsfolk starting their workday; the aroma of coffee slowly fills every corner of this paradise, and urban life begins. There’s no shortage of a group of tourists, easily identifiable by their attire, delighting in the simple beauty of the Chapel of San Juan de Dios.

Just like a piece of this serene town, the Yucatán forest awaits, mysteriously, for travelers arriving at the Xcambó archaeological site. Here, you can explore the main square, admire the ancient steam bath, and enjoy the best Maya stories, just about six kilometers from the center of Telchac!

This quaint fishing town, serenely settled along the coastal shores of Yucatán, knows nothing of the great vices of modern metropolises. Telchac awaits you with its calm, sky-colored waters, white sands, and all its Yucatecan traditions so you can enjoy an unforgettable stay!
